Puppy Classes.....

our local vet runs a puppy class every Wednesday evening. Nella has been taking Luna there for the last two weeks as i am in work i am unable to go. Luna is having a great time meeting all the other puppy's, it is a great opportunity to socialise her at a young age. The classes are really good, they give out a lot of great advice and every week you get a treat for turning up. So far the vet has given Luna Science Plan puppy food and a cool little device for holding her toilet bags. Surprisingly Luna is not the biggest puppy at the group, there is a deer hound who has become her best friend. So i thought i would leave you with some pics of the group.

Getting to know the locals.

We are currently getting Luna used to the big outdoors, we want to socialise her with as many things early on, so that she's not a shy or aggressive dog when she is older. Luna is taking to it really well, she really has no fear and everything seems to be a friend to her. I wanted to upload some of the pics from todays walk so you could all see how she is getting along. We are really lucky to live in the country side, there is so much here for dogs to do, and she really seems happy with her surroundings.

12 weeks old...... The Big Outdoors.

Luna is growing fast, she is approaching 12 weeks old now and settling well into her new home. This breed of dog really seems suited to living in the country, we can hardly keep her in the house. I am annoyed i didnt have my camera on me at the time, as the other day there was a fox hunt outside my house. We took luna out to see all the Horses and Hounds and she did really well. With all the noise and people around i thought she would be shy but Luna is a really bold puppy and sees everything as a new friend. Now that all her jabs are in order we want to get Luna socialised with as many things as we can.

Mt Grandparents have a & year old Labrador called Molly so we take luna down to see her most days. They get on great together, although Luna can be a bit boisterous with Molly. Luna still has her sharp puppy teeth so it can really hurt if she gets carried away. This Wednesday our vets run a puppy class so it will be good to see how Luna gets along with all the other dogs. I would really like to take Luna to Training lessons, as she is doing great with her training so far. Although it is really expensive so i may just carry on with the training myself.

Hope everyone is enjoying the blog.... I will do my best to keep it as up to date as i can.

10 weeks old!

Well we have had the pup for just over 10 weeks now, she had her last injection on Friday as well as being micro chipped. Her training is going really well, i am surprised how intelligent this breed is, at only 10 week she is able to sit, paw, lay down.... and come well ish. when we went to the vets he was just as surprised as we were at how fast she is growing. Luna has gained 3KG in the last three weeks. I think somehow she is going to be a rather large dog. As you can see from the pic Nella is beginning to find it difficult to hold Luna. Luna is becoming really energetic, keeping her indoors is not easy anymore, she's an inquisitive puppy which is good and i can not wait to get her out and about in a weeks time.

Luna day 9..... learning the ropes.

Well i thought it would be time to update our blog on Luna's progress. She has been doing great over the last week. At night she no longer spends hours crying to be with us and has accepted that she is on her own.

Also she is beginning to learn a few commands. To date she has grasped the ability to 'sit', and is great at playing 'Fetch' although i am not sure this is so much of a command more like a constant desire to be played with.

I have recently found the camera option on my camera so i thought it would be good to video Luna out and about for the blog, something a little bit more interesting than just seeing pictures of her. I am approaching training through 'Treat Training' I think this is the most effective way to train a dog, as they will do anything for food and it is a great way to grad there attention. So far i am keeping it simple and sticking to the 'sit' command, but i will bring in some more over the next week or so and see where i get with it all. I think she is doing great for 8 weeks old and hope she really grasp the basic of dog training.....fingers crossed.

Day 3 with the Pup....

I thought I would update the blog on how things are going with the puppy. The first night was hard as she was not happy sleeping away from us, night two was much better, and last night was really good. I think she is beginning to settle down into her new home.

We are trying to get her socialised with as many things as we can, she comes out with us everywhere at the moment as i do not want to leave her at home alone while she is unsure of things.

Luna is not afraid of traveling one bit, i think she kinda likes it as every time we get in the car she instantly settles down for a long sleep. Hope she keeps this trend up as a lot of places we want to take her are a drive away, such as the beach and forest.

Her training is showing good sign's at the moment. Even though she is only 7 weeks old she is getting into the habit of going to the toilet outdoors. As every time she wakes up after one of her many day time snoozes, I take her outside and this seems to be working well.

Also she is great at 'coming' when called outside. (Again maybe just as she is shy at the moment.) And she loves to play 'Fetch' with her pink rope. This is the major one i want her to learn, as she will be such a big dog i want her to play 'fetch' so that she can cover a greater distance when we are out for walks.

I am lucky to be in University and working a part time job. So most of the day i am at home to keep up the training during the early days, although i probably should be doing my Uni work and not training a puppy and writing this blog......hummm.

The puppy went to the vets on the 22nd and had her first round of shots, her next shot is in two weeks, and I can not wait for this as she will grow so fast and keeping her confined to the house will become impossible.

Our vets run a Puppy socialisation class for 11 week+ puppy's. Sounds like a good idea to get her used to a variety of other dogs and breeds. Even though there are plenty of dogs in my family for her to get friendly with it can only help.

Finally Arrived!

Well after a hell of a drive from South Wales to Boston, we have got our puppy home, amazingly she slept in my girlfriends lap the whole 5 hours home.

She seems to be an amazing little puppy, a bit too smart for her own good as she is already taking over our home. As i am writing this she is pinching everything in sight and running a muck.

Hope you enjoy the blog and seeing this little pup grow up.

Update.....Night 1 (21,01,2011)

Well she defiantly put up a fight last night. We have decided that Luna will sleep in the kitchen during the night until she is house trained.

This did not go down well with her! I have been told it is best to be cruel to be kind from the beginning, so we ignored her yelping and crying so that she would settle down. However this did not dampen her spirits. She must have kept it up for a good 4 hours without a break.

Now i have her in the living room with me fast asleep as i think she is shattered from last nights attempts at getting some attention.

Check list for today is to arrange her injections and micro chip so we can get her out and about. As something tells me she wont be happy being stuck inside for much longer.
